The Steward Newsletter - May 2026

Welcome to the latest edition of the Steward Newsletter. You may have noticed our updated branding, now reflected as “Fiducient Advisors, A Wealthspire Company.” While our transition to the Wealthspire name will officially change later in 2026, the people, philosophy and disciplined approach you rely on will remain exactly the same.

With spring finally upon us and hints of summer on the horizon, the world outside is shifting. Sunlight stretches later into the evening, new growth is taking hold and familiar landscapes are painted in color. It’s a fitting reminder that the environment nonprofits operate in is changing as well. Just as we adapt to the season’s renewal, fiduciaries, committees and stewards must also respond to an investment landscape that continues to evolve in both subtle and significant ways. This moment of transition offers an opportunity to reassess priorities, refresh strategies and help ensure that decisions remain firmly rooted in mission and long‑term purpose.

In this issue, we explore timely topics designed to help navigate this evolving landscape. Our featured articles include Hiring an OCIO Investment Consultant: Evaluating the Right Fit, which outlines key considerations for selecting a trusted partner; Start with the Mission, Not the Benchmark, offering perspective on aligning investment strategy with long-term objectives; and AI as a Consultant Copilot, examining how emerging technologies are reshaping the advisory process. We hope these insights provide valuable guidance as you continue to steward your organization’s mission with confidence.

Hiring an OCIO Investment Consultant: Evaluating the Right Fit

Will Boisseau

By: Will Boisseau, CFA
Senior Consultant

Should your organization hire an Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) as a fiduciary advisor? This topic has become a frequent discussion for nonprofit committees as they address the increasing complexity of investment markets, portfolio construction and oversight responsibilities, and as adoption of OCIO services has expanded across the sector. While some institutions choose to build out their own investment offices, 46% of institutional asset owners already use an outsourced model, and another 2% expect to adopt one within... Read More >

Start With the Mission, Not the Benchmark

Over the years, my colleagues and I have had the privilege of working alongside hundreds of nonprofit investment committees across the country. These committees are often composed of thoughtful, accomplished individuals who care deeply about the organizations they support. And yet, even among the most capable groups, a potentially costly challenge can emerge.

It is not a lack of intelligence or commitment. It is a matter of... Read More >

Artificial intelligence (“AI”) is transforming the investment advisory profession by enhancing, rather than replacing, human judgment. The use of AI can support consultants in their goal to deliver more reliable, insightful and client‑focused outcomes. This technology is increasingly used to improve the accuracy, consistency and reliability of data that informs decision-making. As data quality improves, consultants can spend more time interpreting results and engaging with clients, all with the goal of... Read More >

Austin Herzy
Senior Consulting Analyst, Team Lead

What is your greatest career accomplishment so far?

In March, I was promoted to Team Lead for the Allocation team. This new role has been very rewarding; I am able to teach and train new hires, who bring in a fresh set of ideas and perspectives. Together, it makes for an open-dialogue team that strives to improve efficiency and deliver excellence. Working together and seeing them grow professionally has been my greatest accomplishment so far.

What experience from past roles did you bring to your role at Fiducient Advisors?

I had the unique experience of joining the firm right after graduation from the University of Rhode Island. I was able to bring in new perspectives, an enhanced grasp on the use of AI and new technologies, and functions in Excel to enhance efficiency. As it was my first job, I was able to be a “sponge” and take in new concepts, while also providing my thoughts on how we might improve the processes in place.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work? Any interesting hobbies or volunteer organizations you work with?

When I’m not at work, I spend my time at the beach, fishing, paddleboarding and playing golf. With that said, I like to give back and volunteer for beach cleanups as often as I can. I also volunteer with Friends of Strays Animal Shelter, the oldest no-kill animal shelter in St. Petersburg, FL. My favorite hobby is seeing live music, whether it is a sold-out arena or a small local band.
